HEALTHCARE AS SELFCARE
What is HEALTHCARE? When I hear the phrase it brings to mind a concept I heard years ago of physicians only getting paid when their patients stayed healthy, once their patient is ill the doctor no longer gets paid. Now THAT is a healthcare system I can get behind.
Natural healing isn’t a magic bullet. It isn’t about swapping a chemical pill for an herbal one, it requires active participation and a basic belief that the human body wants to be healthy and is always striving towards health. Natural doesn’t mean that you become a super-human that will never get sick. It’s a system that combines all available NATURAL remedies to bring your body into balance once again.
Self-care is about using systems of healing that assist the body, rather than wage war against it. Self-care is a more peaceful way of working with your body. Natural remedies make no guarantees but they also declare no recalls. It’s a sound system based on thousands of years of knowledge by healers from around the globe. Modern science has its roots in the natural systems. Aspirin came from willow bark, digitalis comes from the plant that bears its name. Much of what modern medicine knows was gleaned from the multitudes of ancient texts.
Dip into Self-care as Healthcare and claim your natural birthright. Follow these THREE basic steps to Self-care as HealthCare:
- Define health and what it means to YOU. The World Health Organization defines health as:
“A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”
- Educate yourself on all the different forms of healing: Herbal, Homeopathic, Ayurveda and Chinese.
Science is showing us that there is a lot of validity to these ancient healing methods, used long before drugs existed. Learn, explore and observe how your body reacts to any new methodologies you try.
- A good way to start your journey into Healthcare as Self-care is by putting together a NATURAL First-Aid kit. Carry the kit around with you so the items become second nature and you become more comfortable with using them.
When my granddaughter Haeli was eighteen months old my son Timothy called in a panic one night. It turns out the child had bumped her head and she had a big goose egg on her forehead and he wanted to know what to do. I grabbed my Arnica gel and caplets and headed up to his house. I gave her an oral dose and sat her on my lap while I applied the Arnica Gel to her bump. After an hour it had gone down to the size of a pigeon egg and by the time I left 2 hours later there was not even a bruise. By the next morning there was no sign that any trauma had happened. All of us were now converts.
I had used Arnica before but never seen such powerful results. Did it work so well because she was so young or because the Arnica was applied quickly upon impact? The next test came when my 91 year old mother fell. I grabbed the Arnica from my purse and started applying it with outstanding results. After her trauma had subsided she asked what I had used and the stories rolled from her of her father using Arnica to heal bumps and bruises. Until that moment she had forgotten all about it, now she too keeps it on hand.
History supports the path of SELF-care as Health-care so join us.
